Is ISAK membership really free?
Yes — completely free for all enrolled students at Hochschule Koblenz (both campuses) as well as students at nearby universities. ISAK is a non-profit Verein that runs on voluntary contributions and sponsorship income. We will never charge members for basic membership.
I haven't arrived in Koblenz yet. Can I join now?
Absolutely. Many students join ISAK weeks or even months before they arrive in Germany. You'll get added to the pre-arrival WhatsApp group where seniors answer questions about housing, paperwork, packing lists, and everything else. When you land, ISAK already feels like home.
I'm not Indian — can I still join or attend events?
Yes to both. ISAK events are open to everyone — most events don't require membership at all. We love welcoming German students, international students from other countries, and anyone curious about Indian culture. Membership is open to anyone who wants to be part of the community, regardless of nationality.
What do I get as a member that non-members don't?
Early access and priority registration for workshops and ticketed events (Diwali Night sells out fast). Access to the members-only WhatsApp groups. Members-only documents (CV templates, housing guides). Eligibility for the annual ISAK Merit Scholarship. And a sense of belonging to the community — which is the whole point.
How long does it take to activate my membership?
Our welfare lead checks applications twice a week. Expect a reply within 48 hours on weekdays. You'll receive your member ID, WhatsApp group invite, and a link to the Welcome Handbook in the reply email. If you're arriving for the start of semester and submitting in the rush, it may take up to 72 hours — we're volunteers with exam schedules too.
Can I volunteer or help organise events?
We actively encourage it. After joining as a member, mention in your first email or at the next open office hours that you'd like to help. You don't need to run for the board — we have a volunteer pool for event setup, photography, workshops, and social media. It's a great way to build a German-compatible CV entry too.
